CyberTM by infinilink: “How was it?”
“For a first edition, CyberTM was good” – this is what everyone we asked in person tells us. But because we’re curious and want future editions to be “even better,” we’d love to hear what you personally think.
Overview CyberTM 2024
In its 1st Edition, CyberTM addressed basic elements such as Problems, Solutions, and Funding Methods. The event was organized by infinilink, ADR West, and Digivest, with support from partner companies: Orange, Nokia, Lasting System, MPPL, 4PAY, Ethernity Cloud.
Major themes
Extensive solutions landscape
In a cybersecurity market overflowing with technical solutions, it can be difficult for a cybersecurity consumer company to choose exactly what suits them. Therefore, guests proposed different solutions such as modularity, customization, and adaptability to the situation and available resources.
Limited access to expertise / human resources
Discussing resources – and given that the Western Region is more of an exporter than a consumer of cybersecurity services – the human element is a limiting factor. Therefore, cybersecurity could constitute an entire study program – and CyberTM partner companies are already collaborating with the Polytechnic University of Timișoara on curriculum development. Until then, the CoderDojo youth who participated in the cybersecurity competition confirmed that none of them had formal studies.
Education and awareness with SMEs
Cybersecurity education doesn’t end with graduation. Whether we’re talking about SMEs or corporations, employees need a better understanding of risks and solutions. Most often, simple solutions like training, antivirus, firewall, etc. solve 80-90% of a company’s security needs – but people and processes need to be prepared to use the available technology correctly.
Cybersecurity costs and funding
…And when it comes to money, we discovered that it’s 4× more expensive to pay for ransomware than to implement solutions in time; and that the target budget for cybersecurity should be 4% of a company’s budget. To support the efforts of companies in the Western Region, ADR West and Digivest are launching a dedicated digitalization funding program, from which cybersecurity could access attractive amounts.
Conclusions
At infinilink and CyberTM, we believe that cybersecurity solutions and budgets must be proportional to the client company’s needs and risks. For future editions, we believe CyberTM could be enriched by discussing real situations from risk domains (finance, medical, other critical fields); by conducting training during the event; and by involving more participants from the regional cybersecurity ecosystem (e.g., ICT Cluster, Universities).
